What's New for The 2018 INFINITI Q50?

Moving into 2018, the Q50 INFINITI's core vehicle and biggest money maker, and for good reason. Since its 2014 debut, the Q50 line-up received numerous upgrades including additional luxury packages, expanded engine options, and better performance. The 2018 Q50 gets the model's first visual refresh, both inside and out. The front fascia now spots a more three-dimensional grille, lower air intakes, and a slightly reshaped bumper. The backside receives subtle tweaks to its bumper and more stylish LED tail lights. INFINITI borrows the Q60 coupe's steering wheel for the 2018 Q50's cockpit and offers new wood trims and an optional upgrade to faux-leather. The mild mid-cycle refresh also includes rejiggered trim levels and improved handling. Despite all these changes, the 2018 Q50 is still as artfully sculpted as its predecessors.

Trims & Features

The 2018 INFINITI Q50 is available in four main trims: the 2.0t, the 3.0t, the Red Sport 400, and the Q50 Hybrid. INFINITI further sells it in three aesthetic-oriented sub-trims: Pure (formerly Base), Luxe (formerly Premium,), and Sport. The 2.0t Pure comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic wipers, keyless ignition and entry, simulated leather upholstery, selectable drive modes, a rearview camera, and power-adjustable front seats. Technophiles will love the Q50's infotainment system complete with dual touchscreen displays (7-inch lower and 8-inch upper), wireless connectivity, six speakers, a CD player with satellite radio and two USB cables. The 2.0t Luxe variant adds one inch to the wheels, maple wood interior accents, and a sunroof. The 3.0t Luxe carries the same features as the 2.0t Luxe while the 3.0t Sport adds performance tires, 19-inch wheels, additional front seat adjustments, and leather upholstery. The Red Sport 400 earns you unique 19-inch wheels, transmission paddle shifters, adjustable suspension settings, heated front seats, remote engine start, quilted leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, a navigation system, and dark chrome and red stitching interior accents. The Q50 Hybrid Luxe is similarly equipped to the 3.0t Luxe and borrows largely from the Red Sport 400 aesthetically. A premium Bose audio system and adaptive cruise control are standard on the Hybrid.

Horsepower

Driving the Q50 2.0t is a turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 208 hp and 258 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed automatic transmits to the rear wheels. EPA estimates place this engine at 23/30/25 mpg (city/hwy/combined). An AWD 2.0t returns 22/28/24 mpg. Next is the 3.0t with a 300-hp, 295-lb-ft of torque turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. It records 20/29/23 mpg and 19/27/22 mpg returns for the RWD and the optional AWD respectively. The Red Sport 400 harnesses 400 horses and 350 lb-ft of torque from the same twin-turbo 3.0L V6. Finally, the Q50 blends a 67-h electric motor with a 3.5-liter V-6 to give out an impressive 360 hp and return 27/32/29 mpg and 26/30/28 mpg in rear-wheel and all-wheel trims respectively. Regardless of engine size, all of the Q50 models offer little to no turbo lag and, consequently, snappy throttle response.

Safety

The 2018 Q50 is among the safest luxury sports sedans on the market. All models come standard with Backup Collision Intervention which causes them to automatically brake if any object enters its path while the driver is backing up. The Around View Monitoring System takes the guesswork out of city maneuvering, and the Forward Emergency Braking System detects slowing traffic and hits the brakes if the driver fails to react in time.
