Key

Since the advent of technology in the automobile industry, vehicles have adopted a series of modern features with new ones being developed every day. This wave of modernization brings with it a whole new set of problems. Fortunately, car companies have thought of this, so they prepared some backups just in case anything goes wrong.

If you find that your new INFINITI’s Intelligent Key has died, the car won’t be able to detect it, and you won’t be able to start your car. Fortunately, even with the dead key fob, there are two methods that you can use to start your vehicle.

INFINITI’s patented Intelligent Key allows you to conveniently unlock your car door and start the engine all without using a key. With the key fob somewhere on your person, you can start your car with the single push of a button. Because of this, though, the key fob requires battery power to keep operating, and unfortunately, batteries don’t last forever. So the simplest way to fix your Intelligent Key is by opening the key fob and replacing the button cell battery. Then you can easily start your vehicle.

In case you don’t have or can’t get an INFINITI replacement battery, there are two other methods on how to start your INFINITI car with a dead key. The first method resorts to a technique similar to using a physical key. In specific INFINITI models, such as the Q60 Convertible and Coupe, the QX50 and QX70, there is a key port located on the lower left dash panel. You can insert the key fob into that port and then press the ignition button to start the engine.

Other INFINITI models, like the Q50, QX60, and QX80, use a different method to start the engine. You can take the INFINITI Intelligent Key and hold it against the ignition button, at which point you’ll hear a noise that sounds like a chime. After the chime, you have about ten seconds to press the start button while holding down the brake pedal. This might take a few attempts to get right, but once you do, it should start the ignition.

INFINITI knew that electronic key fobs were bound to run out of energy at some point, so they designed the Intelligent Key to have a couple of different backups, just in case. If you would like to learn about this, contact us, or visit our dealership today.
